dad's day strata

this quick and hearty strata was born from a nearly empty fridge but turned into a delicious father’s day brunch hit. it’s loaded with veggies, savory ham, and just the right kick from pepper jack cheese.
Ingredients
½ cup broccoli florets
3 slices whole wheat bread, cubed
1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes with basil, garlic, and oregano, drained
8 slices deli honey ham, shredded
¼ cup shredded pepper jack cheese
4 eggs
¼ cup heavy whipping cream
1½ teaspoons garlic powder
salt and ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
step 1: preheat the oven to 375°f (190°c) and grease a 9-inch square casserole dish.
step 2: place a steamer insert in a saucepan and add water until it’s just below the insert. bring to a boil. add broccoli, cover, and steam until tender, about 2 to 4 minutes.
step 3: in a large bowl, combine the steamed broccoli, bread cubes, diced tomatoes, ham, and shredded pepper jack cheese.
step 4: in a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. pour this over the broccoli mixture and stir until combined.
step 5: transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish and spread it evenly.
step 6: bake for about 35 minutes, or until the eggs are set in the center. let cool for 3 to 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
