Mom’s Classic Salad

A refreshing, vibrant salad that’s simple yet bursting with flavor. Crisp romaine lettuce, juicy tomatoes, cool cucumber, and sharp red onion are perfectly balanced by a creamy, tangy vinaigrette made with sour cream, fresh oregano, and garlic. This timeless side dish pairs beautifully with everything from grilled meats to pasta.

Ingredients

  • 2 heads romaine lettuce, thinly sliced

  • 2 large tomatoes, diced

  • 1 cucumber, diced

  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced

  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil

  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar

  • 2 tablespoons sour cream

  • 1 teaspoon fresh oregano, chopped

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine romaine, tomatoes, cucumber, and red onion.

  2. Whisk together olive oil, red wine vinegar, sour cream, oregano, and garlic in a small bowl until smooth.

  3. Pour the dressing over the salad, season with salt and pepper, and toss gently to combine.

  4. Serve immediately, topped with extra freshly cracked black pepper if desired.

For an extra burst of flavor and texture, toast some pine nuts or walnuts and sprinkle them over the salad just before serving. It adds a lovely crunch and a nutty depth that complements the creamy dressing perfectly!
